Architectural Constraints in Rehire Workflows
In SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding, the process of rehiring a former employee onto their previous employment record—commonly referred to as Rehire on Old Employment—is subject to specific technical restrictions. A primary limitation occurs when the previous employment record contains a future-dated termination.
The Future-Dated Termination Restriction
As of the current system state, SuccessFactors Onboarding does not support the Rehire on Old Employment functionality for candidates who have a termination date set in the future on their existing employment record. This restriction prevents the system from initiating the rehire process on that specific record until the termination date has passed or the record is otherwise adjusted.
Architectural Implications
For solution architects, this means that rehire workflows must be evaluated based on the status of the candidate's previous employment. If a future-dated termination is present, the standard Rehire on Old Employment path is unavailable in the Onboarding module. Practitioners should ensure that data integrity and record selection logic account for this lack of support to avoid process failures during the onboarding initiation phase.
