SAP SuccessFactors has migrated the Global Header People Search to the Enhanced People Search framework as of the 2H 2025 release. This transition from legacy SOLR-based search to a new Elasticsearch (ES)-based API changes how administrators manage searchable fields and user visibility. Practitioners must now align their Role-Based Permissions (RBP) and system settings to this new architecture to ensure accurate search results across the HCM suite.
Managing Searchable Fields and Inactive Users
Enhanced People Search supports a specific set of default searchable fields, including First Name, Last Name, Username, Assignment ID, and User Status. Notably, Assignment IDs are only supported when Enhanced People Search is enabled (Source 3). Administrators can expand search capabilities by enabling additional Directory Search fields such as Department, Division, Location, Hire Date, and up to 15 customizable fields via the data model's custom-filters elements (Source 3).
A significant change in the 2H 2025 framework is the behavior of inactive users. The legacy configuration "Show inactive user in people search (requires Role-based Permissions)" no longer affects the Global Header Search because it only applies to the deprecated SOLR-based search (Source 3). Currently, inactive users will appear in results unless filtered manually. To exclude them, users must include the status in their query, such as typing "active [employee name]" (Source 3). SAP plans to introduce a configurable switch in User Profile Settings in the 2H 2026 release to allow individual users to control this preference (Source 3).
Practitioner Implications for Profile and Learning
The shift toward the Latest People Profile also impacts document generation. The "Print PDF" or export feature is currently deprecated and unsupported in the Latest People Profile experience (Source 1). While an enhancement request is accepted to restore this functionality in the 2H 2026 release, practitioners should advise users that the Print/PDF option is currently unavailable in the Take Action menu (Source 1).
In the Learning module, the 1H 2026 release introduces AI-assisted features that consume AI units. For instance, Gen AI will suggest proficiency ratings for inferred skills aligned with the Talent Intelligence Hub (TIH) rating scale (Source 2). These units are consumed as soon as skills are inferred, regardless of whether a manual review is conducted (Source 2). Furthermore, the new "Snack View" on the Learning home page is restricted to individual users; it is not currently available for managers, administrators in proxy mode, or delegates (Source 2).
Validation of Employment Dates
When configuring search or reporting for Employee Central, practitioners must distinguish between Hire Date and Original Start Date. The Original Start Date field automatically captures the Effective Start Date of the very first hire record (Source 4). If an employee is terminated and later rehired, the Hire Date field updates to the latest rehire date, but the Original Start Date remains fixed to the initial entry date (Source 4). This distinction is critical when enabling "Hire Date" as a searchable field in Enhanced People Search to ensure users understand which date is being queried.
