Position-led hiring, these are the 3 checks I now make:

One blank Position field stopped a SmartRecruiters job before the job-creation screen even opened.

I hit this recently while testing the native SAP SuccessFactors → SmartRecruiters Position-led hiring flow.

The error looked like a recruiting problem.

It wasn’t.

In this tenant, SmartRecruiters Job Title was mapped from a Position field labelled Business Card Title.

That field was blank.

Before testing Position-led hiring, these are the 3 checks I now make:

1. Is the Position active today?

2. Is it already linked to a SmartRecruiters job?

3. Does the actual Position field feeding Job Title contain a value?

SAP requires Job Title to be populated before the job can be created.

My takeaway:

Do not just validate that the mapping exists.

Validate the data behind the mapping.

A perfectly configured mapping to a blank field is still a broken integration.
